ALICE IN WONDERLAND

In this radical remiagining of Alice in Wonderland Lewis Carroll’s story is told through a distinctly Palestinian social and political lens.

Alice escapes a life shaped by Israeli occupation, poverty, and conservative expectations that restrict her freedom and identity. In Wonderland, she encounters fantastical characters who mirror and distort her lived reality, forcing her to question identity, morality, and what is considered “normal.” Confronted by the oppressive rule of the Red Queen, Alice becomes a catalyst for rebellion, igniting a revolution that overthrows the dictatorship. Rather than accept her role as the new ruler, she demands an equal and just future for all.

Combining music, dance, acrobatics, and physical theatre, Alice in Wonderland was The Freedom Theatre’s most ambitious production to date, blending spectacle with powerful political and social critique, opening at the beginning of 2011 as revolution’s were beginning across Arab countries.
